Fire and Ice

Kaskade's newest EP "Fire & Ice" dropped today, and here is my review. Conceptually it is something totally new. 10 songs per CD, one CD is "Fire", the other is "Ice". The 10 songs are the same on each CD, but remixed to fit the theme. The first CD "Fire" is what you'd expect from Kaskade. It has great club tunes like "Eyes" and "Turn It Down", as well as his collab with Skrillex, "Lick It". The new stuff that we haven't heard is just as good, particularity the trance-y "Room For Happiness".
Then we move on to "Ice".
It is hard to put the "Ice" CD into a particular genre. To summarize I would say most of it falls into minimal-chill electro. It sounds very experimental and some of it I found so-so. Don't get me wrong though, some of the "Ice" versions of the songs are just as good as the "Fire". "Turn It Down" is particularly interesting on the "Ice" CD, just to name one. Even if you don't like the "Ice" CD you're still left with 10 great house tunes that are well worth the full price. If anything we should thank Kaskade for experimenting and trying something new in the genre.

Rating: 7/10
